Building a Custom Operations Portal for Plow Foods
Plow Foods came to us with a familiar problem. Their team was running a growing food production and distribution business through MYOB AccountRight — a solid accounting system, but one that wasn’t built for the operational complexity they’d accumulated. Scheduling, stock management, deliveries, sales rep workflows, and customer notifications were all being handled manually, in spreadsheets, or not at all.
Our goal was to change that — without replacing MYOB.
The Approach
Rather than pulling them off a system that worked for their accounting, we built a custom web portal that sits on top of MYOB and acts as the operational layer around it. MYOB stays the source of truth for customers, products, orders, and invoices. The portal gives the team a better way to actually work with that data — tailored to how Plow Foods operates, not how a generic software vendor thinks they should.
The portal connects to MYOB in real time, so actions taken in the portal flow through automatically. No double entry, no manual syncing, no chasing people to update the system.
What We Built
The technical foundation is a React and Redux Toolkit front end, with Azure handling the integration layer behind the scenes — API Management as the gateway, Logic Apps for orchestration, and Function Apps for custom transformation logic. Authentication runs through Azure AD B2C, keeping access secure and manageable.
But the technology is secondary to what it actually does for the business.
The Outcomes
Production scheduling is now fully digital. Before the portal, production planning was a manual, paper-based process. Now the production team uses a dedicated scheduling tool to input safety stock levels, product forecasts, and complete stocktakes — all in one place, all feeding into the same system.
Deliveries are smarter. The portal includes a route optimisation tool for the local delivery team, reducing the time spent planning runs and making sure orders get out efficiently.
Sales reps can work from anywhere. We built a dedicated mobile-friendly portal for the sales team to raise orders and onboard new customers while they’re on the road — no laptop required, no phoning back to the office.
Overdue accounts are handled automatically. Customers with overdue balances now trigger automated notifications, removing a task that previously required someone to manually check and chase.
Low stock triggers alerts, not panic. When stock levels drop below set thresholds, the relevant team members are notified automatically — giving them time to act rather than react.
Reporting happens on its own. Key business metrics surface automatically in the dashboard, giving management a live view of the operation without having to pull reports manually.
The Takeaway
This project is a good example of what’s possible when you extend an existing business system rather than ripping it out. Plow Foods didn’t need a new accounting platform — they needed a smarter way to work around the one they already had.
The result is a tool that’s genuinely embedded in how the business runs day-to-day. When we talk about automation making businesses more efficient, this is what that looks like in practice.
